Italian Citizen Detained in Buenos Aires for Weapon and Fake Police Badge

Buenos Aires, January 22 (NA) – An Italian citizen was detained in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Villa Pueyrredón for being armed and carrying a fake police badge. When questioned, he could not justify what he was doing there or why he had the mentioned items.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Albarellos and Fomentista avenues when officers on a preventive patrol noticed a Volkswagen Vento car without a license plate. Noticing the police presence, the driver tried to escape at high speed, running red lights, until he was intercepted by light and sound signals.

In the presence of witnesses, the officers searched the vehicle and found a semi-automatic Bersa pistol with a magazine inserted and a round in the chamber, ready to fire, next to the gearshift. They also found a Buenos Aires City Police credential, according to the report accessed by the Argentine News Agency.

Additionally, ten 9-millimeter cartridges were seized from the trunk, and it was confirmed that the vehicle had police flashers installed on the front grille.

When questioned by the officers, the suspect could not justify the possession of the weapon, nor the possession of the police material.

The case was handled by the Northern Flagrancy Unit, led by Amanda Bernzpin, who ordered the detention of the suspect and the seizure of the firearm, the vehicle, the credential, and the ammunition, as well as the standard procedures.
